Ben Bernstein, Ph.D., is a psychologist and educator specializing in performance enhancement. He coaches Academy Award, Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winners and his client list includes dentists, athletes, attorneys, physicians, business executives, opera singers, students and actors.

A graduate of Bowdoin College, Bernstein received his doctorate from the University of Toronto and holds a master’s degree in music composition from Mills College.  An educator for the last forty years, Dr. Bernstein has taught at every level of the educational system. Originally trained in the progressive British infant schools in the late ‘60’s, he has received major grants from the American and Canadian governments for his work.

Bernstein currently lectures on nationally on stress and performance for the American Dental Association, on peak performance at UCSF medical school and is a guest lecturer at universities nationwide. He is  a master teacher at the San Francisco Opera, the founder of The Singer’s Gym, and an award winning composer. Dubbed by American Theater Magazine as “the imagination masseur,” Bernstein was the first director of improvisation at Robert Redford’s Sundance Institute in Utah, and has directed theater at The Juilliard School in New York and the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Sydney. He created and produced original musicals and films with psychiatric  at psychiatric hospitals in the US and Australia. He is presently part of the creative team for a new animated children’s television series, Didi Lightful.

Bernstein coaches his three younger siblings in their successful artistic careers: sister Didi Conn, Frenchy in Grease; brother Andrew, head photographer for the NBA; and youngest brother Richard, in leading roles at the Metropolitan Opera. His wife, Suk Wah, is a novelist. The couple live in the Bay area in northern California.
